Fri, Jan 16.... Just When You Think....

By Lynette at 1:55 AM

Just when you think it can't get colder.... it does!

It was MINUS 11 degrees this morning in Oak Creek, WI! And that didn't include the wind blowing!

I suppose the cold is relative.... relative to what you are accustom to and my southern butt is NOT accustomed to this!

Our appointment was at 11:00 am and we arrived in Butler, WI at 9:30 am. We've been loaded with 44k pounds of paper that we delivered to Western State Envelope.

By noon, we were unloaded and waiting on the beep beep! Being empty was a little concern with the roads being slushy. We knew we'd find out where we were headed soon enough.

The beep beep didn't come, so we decided it was time for showers... thank goodness... it had been a couple of days! So back to the truck stop we go....

True to qualComm nature.... it didn't beep beep until we had gotten our 100 lbs of extra tonnage on (jackets and more jackets) and just before stepping out of the truck! A quick look at the message indicated we were headed to Tomah, WI to pick up a hazmat load and take it to Fargo, ND! Oh cool! We haven't been in ND in a while.... (I thought)... oh wait!... not cool... check the weather, check the roads!

For all the non-drivers... this is a picture of the qualCOMM... our onboard computer that keeps up with us and tells us where to go!

It also keeps track of our mpg, keeps us in touch with the "powers to be at headquarters", reports how fast we drive and beeps at us if we're running late! It is a very powerful item! Say hello to Big Brother!

Arriving back at the truck stop, we grabbed our "bags" out from the undercab storage and headed on to the showers. We were going to drive the 100 plus miles to Tomah, WI this afternoon so I knew I would have to hurry a little.

For me, I had on 2 pairs of socks, jeans, a tank top, a long sleeve shirt, a hoodie, a lined vest, jacket, gloves, and ballcap! By the time I got all this off... I felt like I had been dropped at the North Pole.

And In case your curious and for general information purposes... it is a fact that in these extreme weather conditions... white shampoo will turn blue, shaving cream will freeze, tooth paste will become cement like, hair spray freezes, and liquid make up gels. At this point I had spent 20 minutes and still had not made it into the shower!!

Finally... the shower task was over and we headed to Tomah, WI.
